On view in our booth at The Armory Show 2011 are heavy bronze cast coffee cups placed on pine and mahogany shelfs handcrafted by the artist. The cups are painted white and resembles delicate porcelain in which the frailty only exists in the exterior layer of paint. This piece is a follow up on the success of the artists smaller shelf on view at the Armory Show 2010. Along side with continuing to explore everyday object the artist work with a new motif - nature. Hällerstand has carefully wrapped and lacquered a piece of lilac tree, making a elegant wall sculpture.

Klas Hällerstrands work revolves around human relations and memories embodied in everyday objects made of metal, wood and bronze. His working process takes an extensive amount of time and care. Hällerstrand has a great interest for the materials he uses and is captivated by seemingly incompatible elements. Objects such as baseball bats are wrapped in soft mouliné yarn of warm colors in order to emphasize the fragility of the rough objects.

Klas Hällerstrand (b.1979, Piteå, Sweden) received a Master of Fine Art-degree at the Umeå Academy of Fine Arts, Umeå University in 2008 where he also was awarded the Umeå City Grant given to one graduate of the Acdemy of Fine Arts. Hällerstrand has since then taken part in group exhibitions at Kalmar konstmuseum and Västerås konstmuseum. Hällerstrand!s first solo exhibition was held in our gallery in December 2009 and in 2010 he had a solo show at Luleå Konsthall, Luleå.
